COMPRESSION STOCKINGS

Compression stockings are used to reduce swelling of the leg and feet, prevent progression of venous insufficiency and varicose veins, prevent deep vein thrombosis, reduce pain, and prevent skin changes.

The arterial system and venous system help transport blood between the heart and the feet. The valves in the vein exist to prevent pooling of blood and swelling. High blood pressure, increased age, and trauma can damage the valves which result in pooling of blood in the lower legs. This can manifest as spider veins, varicose veins, and swelling of the foot.
